Alms are a legacy and a justice due to the poor that our Lord Jesus Christ acquired for us.  The brothers who work at acquiring them will received a great reward and enable those who give them to gain and acquire one; for all that people leave behind in the world will perish, but they will have reward from the Lord for the charity and almsgiving they have done.

St. Francis of Assisi, The Earlier Rule (71)

Scripture for the day: We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

Lenten action for the day: Let go of things and trust God.  Give of your time, talents, and resources to those in need, even to a sacrificial level.
